Meet Kupi Kumahu Hunikuï of Haux Love, a Brazilian artisan and medicine maker creating handcrafted ceremonial tools with prayer, devotion, and deep respect for ancestral forest traditions. In this Katukina.us Partner Spotlight, Kupi shares the story, intention, and sacred process behind his work — from bamboo kuripes and tepis to the greater mission of cultural preservation, healing, and love in action.

Nawashahu is the eldest daughter of Putanny and Chief Nixiwaka Yawanawa. Raised to be a leader, she has dedicated herself to studying Yawanawa spirituality, learning from the elders, and deepening her knowledge. As a guardian of this ancient wisdom and a talented singer, Nawashahu has accompanied her parents on their travels and work since a young age. Nawashahu’s Rapé, also known as “Força Feminina”, is a beautiful feminine blend from the Yawanawa tradition, named after its creator. She is one of the few women in her tribe who crafts her own Rapé, following the traditional Yawanawa recipe of Rustica and Tsunu tree ashes. Nawashahu is a gifted composer and singer of medicine songs, playing a vital role in tribal ceremonies. The Yawanawa people, residing deep within the Amazon in Acre, Brazil, are stewards of the rainforest. This indigenous community of about 1,500 people is spread across nearly half a million acres and has preserved their cultural traditions despite numerous external threats. Their songs, dances, stories, and ceremonies bind them in celebration and pass down their wisdom through generations. Living in harmony with the jungle, the Yawanawa offer invaluable cultural treasures and lessons for humanity. We at Katkina.US are humbled and blessed to be able to support our sister, Nawashahu, and her tribe's traditions through sharing this medicine.

Shaneihu Yawanawa is a remarkable man known for his roles as a spiritual leader, musician, hunter, father, and chief of the Yawarani village. He has skillfully bridged the gap between the Yawanawa people and the wider world, introducing the guitar to their traditional vocal music. Today, musical instruments enrich the spiritual practices of the Yawanawa, thanks to his influence. Living in Yawarani village in Acre, Brazil, Shaneihu continues the legacy of his stepfather and grandfather, who were among the last traditional medicine men. He underwent the "Muka" diet, a one-year initiation guided by the elder Yawa, who lived to 105. During this time, Shaneihu created a special batch of Rapé (Rumã), known as the Yawanawa Shaneihu Dieta, infused with prayers and spiritual knowledge. His diet ended already some time ago so his new batch of Yawanawa Shaneihu is not made during the diet but it is still is made with the correct prayers, intention and knowledge of someone initiated the proper way. Shaneihu is also celebrated for his music, particularly his album "Kanaro," which features songs in the Yawanawa Pano language. His music is more than entertainment; it preserves and shares the rich culture of the Yawanawa people. In every aspect of his life, Shaneihu Yawanawa honors his heritage while fostering a connection with the broader world. His work as a leader, musician, and spiritual guide continues to inspire and unite people, highlighting the beauty and wisdom of the Yawanawa culture.
