At Katukina.us every handcrafted offering carries more than beauty or function — it carries a story, a prayer, and the energy of the hands that brought it to life.
One of the greatest honors of this path has been building relationships with artisans, creators, and medicine carriers whose work reflects the spirit, tradition, and sacred intention behind the offerings we share with our community.
Every handcrafted piece carries the energy of the person who created it — their story, their devotion, and their connection to the materials, medicines, and cultures that inspire their craft.
Through our Katukina us Partner Spotlight, we invite our community to step closer to the people behind our offerings, to learn more about their story and the intentions behind what they create and offer.
Today, we are grateful to introduce Richardson Januario da Cruz, founder of Los Magos Artesanato em Madeira in Brazil — a craftsman whose work is deeply rooted in healing, faith, and the spirit of the forest.
Through Los Magos, Richardson creates handcrafted ceremonial tools and sacred wooden pieces shaped with patience, intention, and deep respect for ancestral craftsmanship. His work reflects a grounded connection to the forest, to prayer, and to the belief that every piece carries its own energy and purpose.
In a world of mass production, Los Magos stands as a reminder of the beauty, soul, and humanity that can only come from something truly handmade.

What first called you to work with your craft (medicine, textiles, art, tools, etc.)? How has that journey shaped who you are today?
Our journey began in 2019, during a time of profound trial. Upon being diagnosed with an autoimmune and degenerative spinal condition, I found myself unable to work and facing the uncertainty of how to provide for my family. However, faith proved stronger than fear.
I sought refuge in sacred medicine; with my Kuripe in hand, I asked for permission and placed our destiny in the hands of Pai Rapé (Father Rapé). In that moment, a transformation happened. What started with simple tools and the carving of bamboo flourished, giving life to Los Magos. Through moving cities and overcoming challenges, every piece we create today carries the lessons of this process: empathy, healing, and a deep commitment to caring for every brother and sister on this path.

When someone holds or works with one of your creations, what energy, experience, or message do you hope they receive?
Gratitude, Love, Affection, and Respect.

Of the items we currently carry in the Katukina shop, which one feels most alive for you right now? What makes it special? What was the process of bringing it to life?
I believe that everyone, not only those of us who make these crafts, but all the artisans present here, each had their own creative process, and the satisfaction of being able to bring these instruments of power to the greatest number of people is priceless.

Craft & Integrity:
What is one thing most people don’t understand about the time, intention, or sourcing behind your work?
Because they are handcrafted pieces, time is essential. Here in my workshop, I currently work alone; the whole process is slow and done by hand, and many people don't see that. We put energy into everything we make, and we always have to be well so that the instrument carries some of our energy with it.

What are you currently building, protecting, or devoted to that you’d love our community to know about?
We are building our new workshop and also our space to share forest medicines with people who need them.
