Our Mapacho and Grandfather Rustica comes from South America, more specifically Peru and Brazil. It is all organic, being grown naturally in the Amazon rain forest. Pure organic, fresh and raw Peruvian Mapacho cut from the masos roll. The outside layer of the roll will likely still have residue from the stripped bark that the masos was wrapped in.

Each maso is meticulously hand-rolled, binding the leaves into a dense, aromatic bundle that hails directly from the lush landscapes of Peru. This product encapsulates the robust, yet succulent flavors of jungle mapacho, prepared following a time-honored recipe that has been passed down through generations.

Mapacho has been revered by the indigenous communities of the Amazon for centuries, finding its place at the heart of various cultural practices—from forecasting weather to enhancing fishing rituals, and even in sacred ceremonies aimed at spiritual awakening, meditation, and entering trance states. Esteemed for its purifying qualities, Mapacho is employed similarly to sage for smudging, aimed at cleansing spaces of negative energies and spirits, embodying the belief that malevolent forces cannot dwell in its presence.

Upon acquisition, our Mapacho Maso maintains its prime condition for several months when stored vacuum-sealed in a refrigerator or freezer. Once opened, it should be carefully unwrapped and preserved in paper, away from direct sunlight to retain its moisture and freshness. Should the outer layer dry out, a simple mist of distilled water revitalizes the leaves, making them pliable and fresh once more. For optimal humidity, encase the moist Rustica in a plastic bag briefly, for no more than two days, before transitioning it back to a dry paper wrap.

It's crucial to avoid storing the Mapacho Maso in non-vacuum-sealed plastic bags at room temperature, as this environment is conducive to mold growth. Paper storage under cool conditions is recommended to preserve the integrity and essence of this sacred, traditional product.
