This Guayusa comes in whole leaves to ensure the highest quality; some leaves may break during packaging.

Guayusa tea, an herbal drink consumed for centuries in the western Amazon, comes from the holly tree (Ilex guayusa), native to the rainforest. The Quechua people cultivate it in horticultural plots called chakras and drink it daily. It’s also enjoyed at parties and festivals as a social drink that strengthens bonds among family and friends. Traditionally, guayusa is boiled and served in gourds, often accompanied by storytelling, dream interpretation, and light tasks like weaving. It plays a role in rituals, such as the Quechua practice of drinking it to induce dreams that predict successful hunts. Guayusa is also used medicinally, often mixed with ginger, lime juice, or sugarcane liquor.

Guayusa leaves contain caffeine, theobromine, theophylline, and all 15 essential amino acids, the most notable being L-Theanine. This creates a stimulant that boosts mood & energy without the anxiety or jitters often caused by coffee. With its stimulant and antioxidant properties, guayusa serves as a natural energy drink alternative. It’s the ideal blend of alertness and tranquility, allowing for productive, clear-headed focus without feeling overwhelmed or anxious

Sold in 33 gram bags, approx. 17 servings. Our offering is whole leaf guayusa, you must crush before use. We offer it in this high quality form to keep the integrity & flavor of the leaf.

Directions - Add 1 tsp crushed guayusa leaves to cup (we use a tea infuser, but you can add straight to cup and strain when ready), pour 8 oz boiling water over tea leaves. Steep 5-7 minutes, or to desired strength. Sip & enjoy!
