Blend Profile: Pataxó Laranjeira Hapé is a gentle yet powerful medicine crafted by Canduru, a respected Pataxó medicine maker known for his delicate and balanced compositions. This blend harmoniously combines finely ground leaves of the Laranjeira (Orange tree) with the sacred Murici ashes (Byrsonima crassifolia), creating a medicine that embodies clarity, calm, and grounding.

A small portion—about one-quarter of the usual content—of organically grown Rustica is included to lend warmth and subtle strength, enhancing presence without overpowering the gentle nature of the blend. The result is a Hapé that feels clean, fragrant, and centering—perfect for moments of meditation, introspection, or simple emotional balance.

The Orange tree leaves contribute a light, aromatic sweetness with soothing properties. Long regarded as symbols of harmony and prosperity, they bring emotional equilibrium and protection. The Murici ashes, deeply respected across the Amazon, ground the blend with their stabilizing and protective essence. Known for bringing energy back into alignment—particularly in the solar plexus region—they help dispel confusion, clear energetic stagnation, and restore inner peace.

Together, these elements form a medicine that is both uplifting and anchoring, supporting clarity without over-stimulation. The blend’s aroma is bright and comforting, evoking a sense of warmth and balance—ideal for use in quiet practice, before rest, or in ceremonial space.

About The Tribe

The Pataxó People: Guardians of Culture, Forest, and Spirit

The Pataxó are an Indigenous people of Brazil with ancestral roots in the Atlantic Forest regions of Bahia and Minas Gerais. Once semi-nomadic, they have faced centuries of displacement and assimilation, yet continue to uphold a strong cultural identity through language, ritual, and deep connection to nature.

Cultural and Spiritual Traditions: The Pataxó speak Patxohã, a revitalized language of the Macro-Jê family, now taught in schools and community programs. Their most celebrated ritual, the Toré, is a spiritual dance invoking natural forces through song, drumming, and sacred herbs. Ceremonial practices include body painting, feathered adornments, and offerings of Tabaco and healing roots.

Stewards of the Atlantic Forest: Living in protected areas like Monte Pascoal and Barra Velha, the Pataxó face ongoing threats from deforestation and land invasion. In response, they’ve embraced agroforestry, eco-tourism, and environmental education—blending cultural preservation with ecological action.

Medicinal Knowledge and Sacred Plants: The Pataxó hold a rich tradition of plant medicine, using roots, leaves, and barks to treat physical and spiritual ailments. While not historically tied to Rapé, some have adopted its use through intertribal exchange. Sacred plants include Jurema, Mulungu, and Catuaba, among others. Though Kambo and Ayahuasca are not traditional to the Pataxó, some spiritual leaders have explored their use through ceremonial exchanges with neighboring tribes.

Cultural Resurgence: After generations of suppression—including village burnings and language bans—the Pataxó have experienced a powerful cultural revival since the 1990s. Through language education, youth leadership, and advocacy, they continue to reclaim and protect their identity.

The Pataxó embody resilience, weaving ancestral wisdom with modern tools to defend their culture and the forest. Their voice is vital in the global conversation on Indigenous sovereignty and ecological healing.
